ACT Public School Enrolments

ACT public school enrolments for the 2027 school year are now open! 🎒

Enrolments are open for all students from preschool to year 12 who are starting at a new school in 2027.

Head to our website to enrol by 5 June to receive an offer from 3 August 2026: https://www.act.gov.au/…/find…/enrol-in-a-public-school

If your child is enrolling in their Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) school from kindergarten to year 12, you may receive an offer earlier than 3 August 2026 as you are guaranteed a place in your PEA school.

Breakout Week Activities and Excursions

Breakout Week took place this month, with students engaging in a range of activities and excursions designed to build capabilities and connections.

On-Campus Activities

Students participated in diverse practical learning experiences on campus. Biology students performed a pluck dissection, Metal Products students applied welding skills to their go-kart builds, and Politics students participated in a legislative simulation. Creative and culinary skills were also on display, with Ceramics students shaping clay busts, Chinese language students practicing the traditional sport of Jianzi, and Food Studies classes preparing fresh wontons and Black Forest cake. In community-focused sessions, Essential English classes participated in a self-defence workshop, and Social and Community students made Mother’s Day cards and gifts for Toora Women.

Local Excursions

Off campus, students visited local cultural institutions and community organisations. Line 4 Literature students visited the National Library of Australia to research sources for their study of Burial Rites, while Year 12 Visual Arts students visited the Tuggeranong Arts Centre to view current exhibitions and sketch. Pathways to Work and Learning students also developed communication strategies for their upcoming partnership interviews with the Tuggeranong Over 55s Club.

Sydney Trip

A group of students and staff traveled to Sydney for a multi-day excursion. Highlights of the trip included attending a live performance of Anastasia, participating in a zookeeper encounter at Taronga Zoo, and spending time paddling on the water before returning safely to the college.

Information Evening

Thank you to everyone who attended the Lake Tuggeranong College Information Evening. The college was full of activity, and we appreciate the support of our LTC ‘Ask Me’ student volunteers who helped connect with prospective students and families.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Lake Tuggeranong College Drama cast and crew recently staged their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the LTC Theatre. The performances followed months of hard work behind the scenes by the students to bring the production to life for the local community.

Music in Context visit ANU School of Music

Our Music in Context students visited the ANU School of Music for a composition session with Ken Lampl, Pokémon composer and former head of the school. The orientation session allowed students to focus on practical skills and explore pathways in screen composition.

Visual Arts and Ceramics

Our Visual Arts and Ceramics students are working to complete their major artworks ahead of upcoming due dates. It’s wonderful to see their skills coming to life through such diverse pieces, and we look forward to seeing the finished results.

UC Southside Hub at LTC

The UC Southside Hub at LTC is hosting a series of community sessions for students, parents, and community members.

Join us for the following upcoming sessions:

Keys to Success

IDAHOBIT

To mark IDAHOBIT and raise awareness against LGBTQIA+ discrimination, the LTC Pride group hosted a bake sale with cupcakes, cookies, and brownies, while students came together to create a collaborative mural piece and decorate the courtyard with chalk paint. A Gender Agenda also visited to run a badge-making workshop for students.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported these activities.

Thank you Brew Brothers Erindale

Thank you to Diprash and Tamer, the baristas from Brew Brothers in Erindale, who kindly donated their time to help our students learn barista skills. Our students enjoyed learning the intricacies of how to run the machine.

AusAlert: the Australian Government’s new national warning system

AusAlert is a new national warning system that sends emergency messages to mobile devices. It’s a fast and reliable way to help people be informed and better prepared during local and national emergencies.

AusAlert will be tested in June 2026. A test alert will be sent to all mobile devices in the testing area. Devices may vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. An AusAlert message may appear on device screens. It will clearly say it is a test.

Tests in the ACT region:

  • Wednesday 10 June, 10:30 am, Fairbairn Business Park
  • Sunday 21 June, 2 pm, NSW/ACT border
  • Monday 27 July, 2 pm, Australia-wide.

Children and teenagers need clear, calm and accessible information during emergencies. Some young people may find emergency messages distressing or confusing and may need extra support. Tell young people to:

  • read the message carefully
  • ask a teacher, trusted adult or carer for help if needed
  • follow instructions.

If they are at school, they should follow instructions from school staff.

To learn more about AusAlert, view example alerts and hear what the alert will sound like, head to ausalert.gov.au/community-resources/children-teens.

Bus network improvements from Monday 20 July 2026

  • From Monday 20 July 2026 (the start of school term 3), a range of bus network improvements will be implemented to improve the reliability and efficiency of Transport Canberra bus services.
  • Improvements include reinstating the Rapid 2 and Rapid 3 to once again service west Belconnen, increased frequency for Rapid 4, 5 and 6 services, and timing improvements made to a range of school bus services.
  • Improvements follow ongoing monitoring of traffic conditions associated with the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project, with stable traffic allowing services which cross the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge to do so more reliably and efficiently.
  • Updated timetables will be available in June, however a detailed summary of all the improvements, including for school services, can be found on the Transport Canberra website, or by reaching out to the Transport Canberra team at ced.tcmarketing@act.gov.au and by calling 13 17 10.

Feedback and Complaints

Our school welcomes feedback and we encourage you to raise any concerns. Hearing from you helps us improve the way we support our school community, and we are committed to working with you to resolve any issues.

If something isn’t right, we recommend speaking first with your child’s teacher, the principal, or another school leader. If you’re unsure who the best person is to talk to, our friendly front office staff can help point you in the right direction.

If your concern isn’t resolved after speaking with us, you can contact the ACT Education Directorate by calling (02) 6205 5429 or by using the Education Directorate contact form

We also love hearing about the great things happening in our school! If a person, service or program has made a positive difference for you or your family, we’d be delighted to know. Your messages of thanks and encouragement are shared with the teams involved.

You’re welcome to pass on compliments directly to teachers, school leaders or services, or you can use the  Education Directorate contact form to share your feedback.

We ask that all interactions with school staff are respectful. Honest, constructive feedback helps us the most, especially when information is shared clearly, accurately and in a timely way. Verbal or physical abuse, including through email, phone or online communication, is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

ACT public school term dates

The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.

Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.

Use these dates when planning your future holidays.

Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools

All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.

Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.

Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.

Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.

fTo learn more about this equity initiative and other places where free period products are available, please visit: https://www.act.gov.au/community/women/free-period-products

Become a Homestay Host

Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?

The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.

By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.

International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.

A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
