End of Term 2

Thank you to our students, staff and families for a great Term 2. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to welcoming students back for Term 3 on Tuesday 21 July.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Secondary Scholarships are now open

The ACT Education Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Secondary Scholarships Program is now open for applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students currently in Years 10 and 11.

Applications are made through the Smarty Grants website: Secondary Scholarship Program 2027 – ACT Education Directorate

Applications close on Friday 28 August 2026.

Success Assembly

Students, families and staff came together for our Success Assembly to recognise and celebrate student achievement across the college. The event acknowledged students through three award categories: Learn Awards for academic success, Thrive Awards for students who have thrived in their studies or extra-curricular areas, and Connect Awards for those who have supported others and demonstrated strong citizenship.

Congratulations to all award recipients, and thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the achievements of our students.

YMCA Youth Parliament Participation

Congratulations to Thane on his involvement in the YMCA Youth Parliament program. Thane recently attended a Youth Parliament event at Government House, meeting with Her Excellency the Governor-General of Australia and fellow participants from across the ACT.

As part of the program, Thane is working with his peers to develop a Bill that will be tabled and presented at the ACT Legislative Assembly during the upcoming school holidays.

Semester 1 Dance Showcase

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the LTC Semester 1 Dance Showcase. The evening featured original dance works created by our Dance students as their final assessment for the semester, including a range of solo and small‑group compositions developed throughout the term.

We appreciate the support of our students, staff, families and community members who attended the showcase.

Design Processes Students Create Pet Solutions

Year 11 and 12 Design Processes students designed contemporary solutions for pets of different shapes, sizes, breeds and species as part of their major assessment task. Students developed and refined their ideas through cardboard prototyping before using digital fabrication techniques to produce final plywood scale models.

The project encouraged creativity, innovation and design thinking as students worked through each stage of the design process.

Graphic Design Students Showcase Zines

Graphic Design students showcased their major projects at the Lake Tuggeranong College Zine Fair. Throughout the semester, students designed and created original zines, comics and manga, drawing on personal interests, pop culture, storytelling, illustration and graphic design techniques.

It was encouraging to see the college community supporting our young creatives by browsing, reading and taking home these student-made publications. Congratulations to all students for their creativity, hard work and willingness to share their ideas.

Pathways to Learning Students Build Interview Skills

Our Pathways to Learning students partnered with members of the Tuggeranong 55 Plus Club Inc to develop communication and interview skills in preparation for future work experience and employment opportunities. The project began with an informal meet and greet, giving students and volunteers the chance to share interests, life experiences and career journeys. Volunteers later returned to conduct mock interviews, offering students valuable practice in a supportive environment.

Thank you to the volunteers from the Tuggeranong 55 Plus Club for generously sharing their time and experience. The sessions helped students build confidence, strengthen their interview skills and make meaningful connections within the community.

Winter Pop-Up Op Shop

Our Social and Community Work class hosted a Winter Pop-Up Op Shop, bringing students and staff together to support the initiative. The event featured donated clothing, items for purchase, a bake sale, a jelly bean guess, and a sausage sizzle.

Funds raised will help stock the Communities at Work Food Pantry. Remaining clothing will be donated to Vinnies and the Salvos. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Bus Timetables Available Ahead of July Network Improvements

Bus timetables, school information packs and network maps are now available on the Transport Canberra website ahead of bus network improvements starting on Monday 20 July 2026. Improvements include reinstating the Rapid 2 and Rapid 3 to service west Belconnen, increased frequency for Rapid 4, 5 and 6 services, and timing adjustments to a range of school bus services.

These changes follow ongoing monitoring of traffic conditions associated with the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project, with stable traffic allowing services crossing the bridge to operate more reliably and efficiently. A detailed summary of all improvements, including school services, is available on the Transport Canberra website or by contacting the Transport Canberra team.

Travel with the right fare using MyWay+

Transport Canberra would like to remind students, parents and carers that MyWay+ student concessions are set to expire on Tuesday 30 June 2026, based on predefined concession validity periods. This applies to all MyWay+ concession customers, including those travelling with a registered MyWay+ account and those travelling anonymously.

If your MyWay+ concession expires and your MyWay+ travel card is not registered, the fare will automatically revert to a full adult fare unless the concession is revalidated. Please note that MyWay+ student concession expiry dates are different from the expiry dates shown on your student ID.

To continue paying the correct student fare after Tuesday 30 June 2026, create a MyWay+ account, apply your student concessions and link your MyWay+ travel card. A MyWay+ account allows students to stay informed about concession expiry dates, update concession and travel details and ensure the correct fare is applied when travelling.

MyWay+ also supports more ways to pay for your bus and light rail travel, including the MyWay+ travel card, Mastercard and Visa, printed tickets and the MyWay+ QR code pass.

Why set up a MyWay+ account?

A MyWay+ account is the easiest way to manage your student concession and keep paying the discounted fare. It helps you:

  • Manage your student concession so you always travel with the discounted fare
  • Get reminders when your student concession is about to expire (Note: Your account will revert to a standard adult account if the concession is not revalidated.)
  • Top up online anytime or set up auto top‑ups (5% discount on single fares)
  • Track your travel and transaction history, including when you reach the monthly fare cap
  • Order or link your MyWay+ travel card with your student concession applied
  • Manage multiple payment methods in one place
  • Protect your balance if you lose your card

 Travelling without a MyWay+ account?

If your concession expires and your card is not registered, your fare will automatically revert to a full adult fare unless your concession is revalidated. You can:

  • Create a MyWay+ account and link your existing card allowing you to keep your balance, receive expiry reminders and reapply your concession online at any time. Once your concession is revalidated through your account, the concession fare will apply to all linked payment methods.
  • Purchase a new MyWay+ travel card (card fee applies) with your concession applied and travel anonymously using the new MyWay+ travel card at the concession fare. You will need to purchase a new discounted or free MyWay+ travel card (depends on your concession eligibility) at a MyWay+ retail outlet each time your card expires. Proof of concession (i.e. a valid student ID card) must be presented at time of purchase. The MyWay+ retail outlets cannot adjust or reapply concession on your existing MyWay+ travel card.
  • Keep using your current card but you will be charged a full adult fare won’t receive expiry reminders. Concessions cannot be reapplied to unregistered cards unless you have a MyWay+ account.

The recommended option is to set up a MyWay+ account, register your student concession and link your card.

Support and assistance

If you require assistance or have further questions, call Transport Canberra on 13 17 10 during business hours.

Detailed information about MyWay+ including account and app registration, student concession details and tutorial videos is available at www.transport.act.gov.au/mywayplus

2026 School Term Calendar

  • start and end dates for each term
  • public holidays
  • student-free days.

Download the calendar now to plan for the 2026 school year.

2026 school year Equity Fund now open

To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2026 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.

The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.

Check your eligibility and find more information about supporting documents on the Equity Fund webpage.

ACT public school term dates

The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.

Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.

Use these dates when planning your future holidays.

Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools

All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.

Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.

Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.

Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.

Become a Homestay Host

Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?

The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.

By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.

International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.

A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
