Pathways to Work and Learning Visit Tuggeranong Arts Centre
Our Pathways to Work and Learning students were out in the community again, exploring local opportunities and pathways. Thomas, an LTC alumni, led a tour of Tuggeranong Arts Centre, showcasing what’s on offer, including art courses, exhibitions, dance and performance.
Thank you to Anne, Caroline and Thomas for their time and support.

Graphic Design Students Create Bootleg Album Covers
Graphic Design students have been developing “bootleg” vinyl album covers based on King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard‘s Polygondwanaland.
As part of the project, students explored Australian copyright law and intellectual property, considering how appropriation and originality work in design. They also drew on the visual approach of artist Jason Galea and used design sprint methods to generate and refine ideas.
Well done to all students on pushing their creativity.

School Psychology Service Programs
Support for parents and carers is available through these School Psychology Service programs in Term 2.
See details below to register your interest.

Birrigai Junior Rangers Program
The Birrigai Junior Rangers program is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. - Engaged Through Culture Program – for students in years 7, 8 and 9
- Students will attend Birrigai 1 day a week for a term. They will learn directly from community and knowledge holders about connection and obligation to Country, community and culture. Identity, respect, and learning directly from our greatest teacher – Country – is at the centre of the program.
- Vocational qualifications in Conservation and Land Management or Outdoor Leadership – for students in years 10 and 11
- Runs 1 day a week for 2 years. Students can gain a Certificate II qualification, equipping them with the skills to gain employment as Aboriginal Rangers. There is also the option to complete an apprenticeship (ASBA) as part of the program.

Interim Safe Use of Digital Technologies and Online Environments policy and procedure
- ACT public preschools now have in place an Interim Safe Use of Digital Technologies and Online Environments Policy and Procedure to continue to keep children safe and protect their privacy.
- Staff, parents, carers and visitors must not take photos or videos of preschool children on preschool grounds, as only school‑issued devices are used for this purpose and staff follow strict rules for storing and sharing images.
- What’s new is that parents and carers may now take photos at special school events, such as Book Week, concerts etc. Principals will determine what is a special school event and advise families when photos are permitted.
- Formal policy consultation across the Directorate will occur in the next few weeks which may result in some changes to the policy prior to it being finalised. We will communicate any changes if they arise.
— Do not eat wild mushrooms —
Advice about death cap mushrooms
Death cap mushrooms grow in the ACT. They can grow anywhere in our region, at any time.
It is hard to distinguish a death cap mushroom from an edible mushroom, even for experienced collectors.
Do not touch or eat wild mushrooms, and keep children and pets away from them.
All parts of the death cap mushroom are poisonous. Cooking, soaking, freezing, peeling or drying does not make them safe. Eating even a small amount of a death cap mushroom can kill you.
If you think you may have eaten a death cap mushroom, urgently seek medical attention at a hospital emergency department. Do not wait for symptoms to occur. The chances of survival increase where treatment is started early. Take any remaining mushroom to the hospital for identification.
If you think a death cap mushroom may be growing in a public area, report it to Access Canberra by phone 13 22 81 or use the online form http://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/city-services/fix-my-street.
If you are concerned about wild mushrooms growing at your home, remove them using gloves or a tool and dispose of them with your household rubbish.
Find more information on death cap mushrooms (including some translated resources) at http://www.act.gov.au/health/topics/environmental-hazards/death-cap-mushrooms.
Beginners Yoga Session at Greenway
A beginners yoga session with Yoga with Jayson and Friends is available for first-time participants, focusing on gentle movement and guided meditation in a safe and comfortable atmosphere.
The session runs for 1 hour at 101 Cowlishaw St, Greenway ACT 2900, Australia. Cost is $20 for a casual visit or $15 when classes are purchased in advance. Concession and pensioner card holders receive a discount. All equipment is provided; participants are advised to wear loose clothing.
2026 School Term Calendar
The 2026 school term calendar has been published on the ACT Government website.
This calendar includes:
- start and end dates for each term
- public holidays
- student-free days.
Download the calendar now to start planning for the 2026 school year.
2026 school year Equity Fund now open
To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2026 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.
The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.
Check your eligibility and find more information about supporting documents on the Equity Fund webpage.

Head Lice update
ACT public schools have updated the approach to exclusions for students with head lice.
When head lice or nits (eggs) are discovered on a student during the school day, the student does not need to leave school straight away. Instead, the school will contact the student’s family to advise they should remain away from school until appropriate head lice treatment has commenced. This means if treated the same day, the student can return to school the next day.
Our school will advise families of classes/year groups impacted by any head lice outbreaks.
To help stop head lice spreading, families are encouraged to take some simple steps including avoiding head-to-head contact, keeping long hair tied back, starting treatment as soon as possible, and continuing treatment at home over the following weeks to remove all lice and eggs.
For more information, please read the head lice policy and the procedures our schools follow.
ACT public school term dates
The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.
Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.
Use these dates when planning your future holidays.
Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools
All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.
Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.
Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.
Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.
fTo learn more about this equity initiative and other places where free period products are available, please visit: https://www.act.gov.au/community/women/free-period-products

Become a Homestay Host
Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?
The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.
By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.
International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.
A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.
Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
