Welcome to Term 3

Dear LTC parents, carers and students

I’m excited to welcome all our staff and students to Term 3. As we start the new school term, it’s important to acknowledge the COVID-19 pandemic is continuing and this will be reflected in the way our school operates in Term 3.

On the advice of the Chief Health Officer, the ACT Government has paused its easing of restrictions and as a result we will remain at Step 2.2 of the COVID-19 Easing of Restrictions Roadmap for Schoolsuntil health advice changes. The Roadmap is attached to this email for your information.

Restrictions in ACT public schools will remain as they were during the last two weeks of Term 2:

We will keep you informed of any changes to the easing of restrictions and what they will mean for our school. 

Cleaning of high frequency touch points such as door handles will continue across the school both during the day and out of school hours, and we will continue to provide sufficient soap, paper towel and hand sanitiser for students and staff.

The ACT Government has introduced mandatory public health directions which require ACT residents to self-isolate for 14 days if they have travelled to Victoria and three specific locations in New South Wales (the Crossroads Hotel in Casula between 3-10 July, Planet Fitness in Casula between 4-10 July, or the Picton Hotel in Picton on 4, 5, 9 or 10 July).

If your child/children have been in any of these locations, you will need to follow the health advice and self-isolate for the required period. Please contact the school to let us know if your child won’t be attending school.

We understand that this is a challenging time for our school community and that children may experience increased anxiety. It’s important we all take time to focus on our wellbeing and the

wellbeing of our families during this time. The Education Directorate has compiled a range of useful wellbeing resources for students and families which can be accessed via this link.

If you have any questions, please speak with your child’s teacher in the first instance.

The Library Returns

The school library is open again, and students are loving it! Here is what they said.

I missed having a quiet area to study on my lines off.

I’m happy the library is open because it’s cold outside, and I can do some schoolwork in peace.

I missed the focused and calming atmosphere rarely found at home.

We used to be in the library 24/7, and it was very strange not being able to come here for a while.  The quiet rooms in the school cannot compare.

We missed you, too, and we’re so pleased to have the happy hum of our students back in here again!

You can keep your existing booking slot – it will just be a GoogleMeet, not face-to-face.  Prior to Thursday, you will receive an email with the link to join your interview. We ask that you be on time, and mindful of finishing with the teacher on time, so that we can get through all slots.  Teachers have been given the same advice!If you haven’t made a booking yet, check the email with the link to PTO, and it will assign you a slot. 28 July 6pm – 7pmScaling Information Session for Families of 2020 Year 11 studentsA face-to-face event held at college with parents on how scaling works in the ACT senior secondary system for students undertaking a (T)ertiary package.This event will move to an electronic sharing of the materials.  No face-to-face workshop will run.Year 11 Tertiary students (and families) will receive an email from Elliot Davis in the next couple of days with materials explaining the content of this session.  You will also receive info on how to get any of your questions answered.Any questions:  elliot.davis@ed.act.edu.au
29 July 12noon-1pmSuccess AssemblyParents invited to join students in the college courtyard for presentation of certificates of success, reflecting on their contribution in Semester 1.No face-to-face event (sadly!)Recipients (and there are over 100 of them) will attend a closed ceremony next week, have their photo taken receiving their certificate; and these will then be shared with families.Any questions:  julie.murkins@ed.act.edu.au
