Term 4 Start Dates
Term 4 classes will commence on Tuesday 13 October. Monday 12 October is a student-free day.
We look forward to welcoming students back for Term 4.
LTC Music and Dance at Floriade
LTC Music and Dance students performed on Stage 88 at Floriade, with an appreciative crowd enjoying the performances.
The event provided a great opportunity for our students to perform live as part of one of Canberra’s major events. Well done to all the students involved, and thank you to the staff who supported them.
LTC Library Literary Lunch
LTC Library’s annual Literary Lunch welcomed local comic artist Stuart McMillen, who shared insights into his work, creative career and experiences as an entrepreneur.
Students had plenty of questions and the opportunity to learn more about working in the creative industries. Thank you to Stuart for sharing his time and experience, and to the LTC Library Team for hosting the event.
R U OK? Day
LTC celebrated R U OK? Day, with students and staff coming together for a free BBQ, activities and a chance to connect with visiting community organisations.
Thank you to headspace Tuggeranong, Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre and Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services for joining us, and to local sponsors Ureshii Japanese Restaurant, Nash & Smashed and Limelight Cinemas Tuggeranong for their support.
Jeans for Genes Flea Market
The Active Citizenship team held a flea market to raise money for Jeans for Genes Day while promoting sustainable practices through recycled fashion.
Well done to Charlotte R., our student leader for the event.
Out of the Shadows Walk
LTC students and staff took part in Lifeline’s Out of the Shadows Walk for World Suicide Prevention Day, walking to remember those lost to suicide and support people in crisis.
Our LTC team raised $177 for Lifeline’s crisis support services.
Mandarin Student Awards
The Australia-China Friendship Society, ACT Branch, recognised two LTC students for their achievements in Mandarin.
Reese received the Most Proficient Student Award, while Musa received the Achievement Award in Mandarin. Congratulations to both students, and thank you to the Australia-China Friendship Society, ACT Branch, for donating two Mandarin shields to LTC.

Behind the Wheel
Our students took part in the PCYC Behind the Wheel program, developing practical knowledge and skills around safe driving and road safety.
Across the two-day program, students explored risky driving behaviours, driving simulators, first aid, car maintenance and the impacts of road accidents.
Feros Care NDIS Appointments
Feros Care will be visiting LTC on Thursday 22 October, offering one-hour appointments for families and carers with Local Area Coordinators (LACs).
Appointments provide an opportunity to ask questions about the NDIS, including eligibility, plans and available supports.

Geoscience Hazards and Disasters Day
Our Earth and Environmental Science students attended Geoscience Hazards and Disasters Day, taking part in practical activities including tsunami arrival modelling, bushfire hazard assessment and evacuation planning, and earthquake impact mapping.
Students also heard from scientists about fieldwork, natural disasters and town planning, the economic impacts of disasters, and careers in Geoscience.
Biology Fieldwork
Our Year 11 Biology students headed to Lower Tuggeranong Creek to collect field data as part of the ACT Catchment Health Indicator Program.
Students assessed the site’s water quality using physical, chemical and biological indicators, putting their classroom learning into practice in the field.
National Wattle Day
To celebrate National Wattle Day, LTC students got their hands dirty digging and planting wattles around the College.
LSA Appreciation Week
LSA Appreciation Week was a chance to recognise and thank our Learning Support Assistants for the important role they play at LTC.
Throughout the week, staff and students shared notes of appreciation, and our LSAs were treated to a morning tea. Thank you to our dedicated LSA team for everything you do to support our students and college community.
TRaC-X
TRaC-X gives students the chance to try something different, build skills, connect with others and have some fun. Recent activities have included rowing, Indigenous Art, dance, baking and coffee, and Dungeons & Dragons.
Wear It Purple Day
LTC came together for Wear It Purple Day, with students and staff wearing purple and taking part in activities throughout the day.
This year’s theme, Colours of Courage, recognised the courage shown by LGBTQIA+ young people, allies and communities.

Project submissions open: 2026 Science and Engineering Fair
- The Science Educators Association of the ACT (SEAACT) Science Fair is now open to students from P – 12 across ACT Schools. Students can submit their project to the Fair for a chance to win cash prizes and an opportunity to represent the ACT at the national finals.
- Science investigation projects can be submitted by individuals, in pairs or as a class task. Students can also conduct their own science experiments independently at home using the SEAACT resources.
- Primary level projects are due by Friday 23 October, and secondary projects are due by Friday 30 October.

We’d love to hear about it. Your words of thanks, encouragement and appreciation help us recognise the people and programs making a difference in our school community and will be shared with the teams involved.
You can:
- Share your compliment directly to teachers, school leaders or support services, or
- Submit feedback through the Education Directorate contact form.
Raising a concern or making a complaint
If you have a concern about our school, we encourage you to let us know. Your feedback helps us improve and work with you to find a solution.
As a first step, please speak with your child’s teacher, the principal or another school leader. If you are unsure who to talk to, please speak with the front office.

We are committed to working with families in a positive and respectful way. To help us address concerns, please provide honest, constructive feedback on our services, and provide timely, accurate and complete information.
Abusive, threatening or violent behaviour is never okay and will not be accepted at our schools. This includes any communication by email, phone or online.
Legal Aid Support Available at LTC
Legal Aid support is available every Friday in the N.E.S.T. Free legal assistance is offered to students and families in the Library from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Legal Assistance in College
You can get help with any legal concerns including:
· your rights at work
· personal and family safety
· discrimination
· sex and consent
· scams and debts
· car accidents and traffic issues
· cyberbullying
· tenancy
· issues with police.
A lawyer can help by:
· giving legal advice on your specific situation
· representing you when communicating with other organisations
· drafting a letter of demand
· referring you to other services.
2026 school year Equity Fund now open
To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2026 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.
The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.

Changes to bus services from term 3
- From Monday 20 July 2026, changes to the bus network will begin across Canberra. These changes will help make bus services more reliable for students and other passengers.
- Changes include the return of Rapid 2 and Rapid 3 services to west Belconnen, more frequent Rapid 4, Rapid 5 and Rapid 6 services, and updates to some school bus timetables. This means that temporary local services route 12 and route 13 will cease service.
- The timetable changes are designed to improve service reliability and better support students travelling to and from school. These improvements have been made following ongoing monitoring of traffic conditions around the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project. Improved traffic conditions mean buses can travel more reliably across the bridge.

ACT public school term dates
The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.
Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.

From term 3 students will have access to free period products through newly installed dispensers in addition to the expansion of access points throughout the school. This is part of an ACT Government commitment to provide students with access to free period products in a way that supports dignity and privacy.
Sanitary pads are available in primary schools, while high schools, P-10 schools, and colleges provide both sanitary pads and tampons.
This initiative supports students’ health, wellbeing and learning by removing stigma and addressing barriers related to menstruation. It is guided by the broader goal of ending period poverty.
Students will be informed of dispenser locations and encouraged to take what they need to use. They may take products for themselves, for friends or even for family members at home.

Become a Homestay Host
Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?
The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.
By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.
International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.
A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Menslink – Supporting Young Men in Canberra
Menslink has provided free counselling to young guys throughout the Canberra region for 20+ years.
If your young guy is having a hard time, is anxious, uncertain or fearful of his future and could really use someone to talk to, get in touch!
Our wait times are relatively low so we’re ready to help when your young guy needs it.
We provide a welcoming and supportive environment for young guys to share their concerns and worries and we provide tips and strategies to get them through those tough times that many of them are facing right now.
Menslink Counselling sessions are completely confidential and are available to any young guy aged 10-25. There are no fees or charges, and no limits to the number of sessions. You don’t need a mental health plan and we are available during school terms and school holidays.
