Book Week Parade
Students and staff brought their favourite book characters to life for our annual Book Week Parade! Creative costumes were on full display as everyone got into the spirit of this year’s Symphony of Stories theme.
Daffodil Day Ducks Fundraiser
Our Daffodil Day Ducks fundraiser has raised $2,165 for the Cancer Council! Brave staff members Lisa, Lachie, Jacob, Chip, Meiya, Dave M, and Principal Dave all took the plunge into Lake Tuggeranong to retrieve their sponsored ducks.

Netball Mixed Gala Day
LTC entered two teams in the Netball Mixed Gala Day, competing against schools from across the region. Both teams demonstrated great teamwork, commitment, and sportsmanship throughout the event, coming away with several wins while representing the college with pride on and off the court.
Morning Buzz Café Open
The Morning Buzz Café is up and running! Staff and students can grab a coffee, mocha, hot chocolate, or chai every Monday and Thursday during first break (card payments only). The café gives our Hospitality students valuable hands-on experience in a real-world environment, with all proceeds reinvested directly back into the program.
Inclusion Pathways Info Forum
An Inclusion Pathways Info Forum will be held on Monday, 7 September, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the LTC Theatre (Pav 5). This event offers students with a disability or additional needs the opportunity to explore future pathways and connect directly with providers, including Omnia, Feros Care, Jigsaw, Nexus, and Employ for Ability.
Omnia Inclusive Employment Solutions Visit
Our HUB students recently visited Omnia Inclusive Employment Solutions to participate in the Mini Woollies program. Through hands-on retail role-playing activities, students developed transferable workplace skills while building confidence, communication, and teamwork in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Canberra Community Disability Expo Visit
Our HUB students attended the Canberra Community Disability Expo to explore local services and support networks. The event provided an opportunity for students to meet providers, learn about available community resources, and build valuable connections for the future.
Bell Shakespeare National Teacher Conference
Our Drama teacher, Catherine, recently attended the Bell Shakespeare National Teacher Conference 2026 alongside educators from across Australia. The conference focused on innovative classroom strategies and contemporary approaches to teaching Shakespeare, bringing back fresh ideas and techniques to enrich learning for our LTC Drama students.
Museum Theatre Research Excursion
LTC students visited the Royal Australian Mint and the National Library of Australia to gather inspiration for their upcoming museum theatre performances. As part of the November Come Alive Festival, students are researching and devising original works to bring historical artefacts and stories to life on stage. Special thanks to the staff at both institutions for providing guided tours and expert support.
Architecture Excursion
Our Architecture students explored some of Canberra’s most iconic buildings to gain insight into the design, history, and purpose of the nation’s built environment. Special thanks to Seth at Parliament House for his engaging and informative tour, and to local Federal MP David Smith for meeting with our students to discuss the design and architecture of the building.
Essential English Excursion
Year 11 Essential English students visited South.Point Tuggeranong to analyse in-store advertising as part of their Literacy for Life unit. This hands-on project directly supports students working toward a Certificate II in Workplace Skills, with the excursion contributing toward their nationally recognised VET qualification.
Alumni Spotlight: Laluna Ray
Great to see LTC graduate Laluna Ray (Leila Rooney, Class of 2020) achieving new heights with the release of her single, Bioluminescence. Now based in London, Laluna Ray continues to build on the creative foundation she developed at LTC as she pursues her music career. Congratulations Laluna Ray—we look forward to following your journey!

Alumni Spotlight: Georgia Nelson
Great to see LTC graduate Georgia Nelson continuing her studies at the University of Canberra, where she is currently in her first year of a Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Politics and International Relations. Featured in a recent UC article about her transition from LTC to university, Georgia reflected on her time in Legal Studies and Politics, as well as the support from her teachers that helped shape her academic pathway. We wish Georgia all the best as she works toward her goal of a career in law.

H Course – Accelerated Pathways Program Info Session
Lake Tuggeranong College will host an in-person information session for the H Course – Accelerated Pathways Program on Monday, 14 September, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This program offers students the opportunity to study on campus at university, earn credit toward a degree, and boost their ATAR.

First Aid Training
Thank you to the Lions Club of Canberra Kambah for sponsoring First Aid Training at LTC, delivered by Canberra First Aid. Our students gained practical, hands-on skills in CPR, Basic Life Support, and essential First Aid.
National Skills Week Launch
Our Careers and Pathways Manager, Clare, along with Bree from South Training RTO, attended the breakfast launch of National Skills Week at CIT Woden. Under this year’s theme, Life Changing, the event highlighted the powerful role VET plays in shaping futures, featuring inspiring stories from students and employers on how vocational education has transformed their lives.
Online Safety Presentations for Parents and Carers
Join our free online webinars to learn about how AI and algorithms shape your child’s world, with practical strategies to protect their safety, privacy, and sense of reality.
Explore how AI and algorithms can lead young people down harmful ‘rabbit holes’ – from the manosphere to eating disorders, conspiracy theories, and inaccurate mental health advice. We will address:
- emerging AI-driven risks, including deepfakes, chatbot grooming, and the impact of hyper-realistic misinformation.
- helping your child develop the critical thinking skills needed to spot bias and manipulation, while teaching them how to control and curate their own experiences to protect their privacy and wellbeing in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Project submissions open: 2026 Science and Engineering Fair
- The Science Educators Association of the ACT (SEAACT) Science Fair is now open to students from P – 12 across ACT Schools. Students can submit their project to the Fair for a chance to win cash prizes and an opportunity to represent the ACT at the national finals.
- Science investigation projects can be submitted by individuals, in pairs or as a class task. Students can also conduct their own science experiments independently at home using the SEAACT resources.
- Primary level projects are due by Friday 23 October, and secondary projects are due by Friday 30 October.

Has a teacher, staff member, service or program made a positive difference to your child’s learning journey?
We’d love to hear about it. Your words of thanks, encouragement and appreciation help us recognise the people and programs making a difference in our school community and will be shared with the teams involved.
You can:
- Share your compliment directly to teachers, school leaders or support services, or
- Submit feedback through the Education Directorate contact form.
Raising a concern or making a complaint
If you have a concern about our school, we encourage you to let us know. Your feedback helps us improve and work with you to find a solution.
As a first step, please speak with your child’s teacher, the principal or another school leader. If you are unsure who to talk to, please speak with the front office.

Legal Aid Support Available at LTC
Legal Aid support is available every Friday in the N.E.S.T. Free legal assistance is offered to students and families in the Library from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Legal Assistance in College
You can get help with any legal concerns including:
· your rights at work
· personal and family safety
· discrimination
· sex and consent
· scams and debts
· car accidents and traffic issues
· cyberbullying
· tenancy
· issues with police.
A lawyer can help by:
· giving legal advice on your specific situation
· representing you when communicating with other organisations
· drafting a letter of demand
· referring you to other services.
2026 school year Equity Fund now open
To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2026 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.
The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.

Changes to bus services from term 3
- From Monday 20 July 2026, changes to the bus network will begin across Canberra. These changes will help make bus services more reliable for students and other passengers.
- Changes include the return of Rapid 2 and Rapid 3 services to west Belconnen, more frequent Rapid 4, Rapid 5 and Rapid 6 services, and updates to some school bus timetables. This means that temporary local services route 12 and route 13 will cease service.
- The timetable changes are designed to improve service reliability and better support students travelling to and from school. These improvements have been made following ongoing monitoring of traffic conditions around the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project. Improved traffic conditions mean buses can travel more reliably across the bridge.

ACT public school term dates
The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.
Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.

From term 3 students will have access to free period products through newly installed dispensers in addition to the expansion of access points throughout the school. This is part of an ACT Government commitment to provide students with access to free period products in a way that supports dignity and privacy.
Sanitary pads are available in primary schools, while high schools, P-10 schools, and colleges provide both sanitary pads and tampons.
This initiative supports students’ health, wellbeing and learning by removing stigma and addressing barriers related to menstruation. It is guided by the broader goal of ending period poverty.
Students will be informed of dispenser locations and encouraged to take what they need to use. They may take products for themselves, for friends or even for family members at home.

Become a Homestay Host
Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?
The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.
By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.
International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.
A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Menslink – Supporting Young Men in Canberra
Menslink has provided free counselling to young guys throughout the Canberra region for 20+ years.
If your young guy is having a hard time, is anxious, uncertain or fearful of his future and could really use someone to talk to, get in touch!
Our wait times are relatively low so we’re ready to help when your young guy needs it.
We provide a welcoming and supportive environment for young guys to share their concerns and worries and we provide tips and strategies to get them through those tough times that many of them are facing right now.
Menslink Counselling sessions are completely confidential and are available to any young guy aged 10-25. There are no fees or charges, and no limits to the number of sessions. You don’t need a mental health plan and we are available during school terms and school holidays.
