Great start, LTC

February has been a positive start to the year at Lake Tuggeranong College, with plenty happening across the college community as the year gets underway.

Students Explore Pathways

Students took part in our annual Work Expo, engaging with a wide range of organisations and providers offering information on career pathways and post-school options.

The Expo showcased opportunities across apprenticeships, universities, and employment, supporting students as they consider their next steps beyond college.

LTC Teacher Selected for National Bell Shakespeare Program

We’re proud of our Drama and English teacher, Catherine, who has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 National Teacher Mentorship Program with Bell Shakespeare.

The program includes four days of specialist training at Bell Shakespeare HQ in Sydney, followed by ongoing mentoring from Bell Shakespeare artists and staff – experience Catherine will bring back into LTC classrooms.

Moderation Day

A reminder that Tuesday 3 March is a student free day due to Moderation Day.

Classes will resume as normal on Wednesday 4 March.

Design Students Apply Research to Real-World Problems

LTC Design students are paying attention to the world around them, identifying what isn’t working and asking why. By conducting ethical surveys and working with real data, students are developing design solutions grounded in genuine community feedback. Thoughtful design starts with listening.

AST Preparation Begins for Year 11 Tertiary Students

Preparation for the ACT Scaling Test (AST) is underway, with Year 11 Tertiary students undertaking an AST trial as part of their preparation.

Registrations are now open for the 2026 ACT Youth Assembly, a free, youth-led event for young people aged 12–25. The Assembly provides an opportunity for participants to share their ideas and lived experiences on issues such as bullying, racism, cultural identity, and community safety.

The 2026 Assembly will be held on Monday 31 March, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, at CIT Woden. For more information or to register, visit:

Students Visit AFP Majura Forensics Facility

Our students had the opportunity to explore real-world science and forensic pathways during a visit to the Australian Federal Police Majura Forensics Facility. The visit formed part of activities marking the International Day for Women and Girls in Science, highlighting career pathways and practical applications of science in the workplace.

Do you know a recent year 12 graduate studying an education degree? They may be eligible to apply for a Tertiary Scholarship Program?

The ACT Education Directorate awards up to 5 scholarships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in an undergraduate teaching degree. LTC Alumni Featured in Shakespeare by the Lakes

We’re proud to see #LTCAlumni contributing to the creative life of our community. LTC graduate Alastair McKenzie performed as Bianco in a gender-flipped production of The Taming of the Shrew, presented as part of Shakespeare by the Lakes.

2026 School Term Calendar

The 2026 school term calendar has been published on the ACT Government website.

This calendar includes:

  • start and end dates for each term
  • public holidays
  • student-free days.

Download the calendar now to start planning for the 2026 school year.

Online Safety Presentations for Parents and Carers

Help your family feel more confident and safe online. Learn about current online safety issues, how to support your child, and where to find further help and resources. Afternoon and evening sessions available.

RSVP to access video content and resources: bit.ly/2025_PC_OnlineSafety_RSVP

Senior Secondary languages education

From term 1 2026, the external Senior Secondary languages program, previously facilitated by CIT Solutions, will not be available to new students. Language education course options are a school-based decision, and students will be required to access language courses via existing school enrolment options or the BSSS specialist education provider (currently for Chinese only).

If required, arrangements may be available for students enrolled at one college to be able to access a language course at another. Please discuss these options with your college.

2026 school year Equity Fund now open

To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2026 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.

The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.

Check your eligibility and find more information about supporting documents on the Equity Fund webpage.

ACT public school term dates

The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.

Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.

Use these dates when planning your future holidays.

Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools

All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.

Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.

Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.

Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.

Become a Homestay Host

Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?

The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.

By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.

International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.

A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
