Whether they want to explore subjects, meet future classmates, tour the campus, or simply soak in the college atmosphere, this day is designed for them.

It promises to be a relaxed, friendly, and enjoyable experience, offering students the perfect chance to ask questions, discover their interests, and feel enthusiastic about the next chapter of their education.

📅 Date: Monday 8 December 2025
Time: 8:45 AM – 1:30 PM
📍 Location: Lake Tuggeranong College

We are eager to meet our students, introduce them to the campus, and help them feel confident and enthusiastic about beginning Year 11 at Lake Tuggeranong College.

Mura Lanyon Christmas Support

This Christmas, Mura Lanyon will support over 200 local families to help ease the financial pressure of the holiday period.

ACT Youth Advisory Council

Applications are now open for the ACT Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a key youth advisory body that gives young people aged 12 to 25 a voice in ACT Government decisions that affect them.

YAC brings together young Canberrans from diverse backgrounds to share ideas and experiences that help shape policies, programs, and services for young people. Members meet every 2 months in Civic from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, help design and deliver the annual ACT Youth Assembly, and take part in youth advocacy and community projects.

Young people from all backgrounds and lived experiences are encouraged to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, LGBTIQA+ young people, young carers, people with disability or neurodivergence, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Applications close Friday 19 December 2025.

Apply online: 2026 ACT Youth Advisory Council – Expression of Interest Form.

Dance and Music Showcase

Our Year 11 and 12 Dance and Music students lit up the stage at the LTC Dance & Music Showcase.

It was a strong celebration of Performing Arts at LTC, recognising the work and creativity of our performers and the staff who supported them behind the scenes.

Success Assembly

We came together to recognise the achievements of our students at the Success Assembly.

🎓 Learn Awards acknowledged students who demonstrated academic success in various subjects.
🌟 Thrive Awards celebrated students who thrived in their studies or in extra-curricular areas.
🤝 Connect Awards recognised students who supported others in our community, volunteered their time or demonstrated strong citizenship.

Thank you to the families, friends and staff who attended and supported our students.

Spirit Week 2025

LTC marked Spirit Week 2025 with a range of themed days as we prepared to farewell our Year 12 students. Themes included Blast from the Past, where students wore old school uniforms, Future Me, where staff and students dressed as who they might be in the years ahead, Comfy Day, with pyjamas and trackies across campus, and Decades Day, where everyone dressed to match a chosen decade.

Visual Art, Photography and Graphic Design Exhibition

The LTC Visual Art, Photography and Graphic Design Exhibition opened this month. Opening Night brought our community together to view a wide range of student work, and the exhibition continued throughout the week in the College Library.

The exhibition showcased the creativity and skill of our Year 11 and Year 12 students across a variety of mediums.

RACI Science Detectives Competition

Lake Tuggeranong College entered five teams – the most of any school – in the RACI Science Detectives competition at UC.

Students worked through a staged murder mystery run by the UC School of Chemistry and AFP Forensics, using genuine forensic analytical techniques. All teams represented LTC with enthusiasm, teamwork and determination.

Drama Students Perform at Come Alive 2025

Our Drama students performed The Boxing Day Test, 1975 at the Joe Woodward Theatre, Daramalan College, as part of Come Alive 2025 – a youth arts festival celebrating original, student-devised theatre.

Inspired by the Living the Seventies exhibition at the National Library of Australia, students explored artefacts, researched history and created an original play set around the first colour TV broadcast. The piece focused on family, identity and change in 1970s Australia.

Work Experience Opportunities at LTC

Students at LTC can undertake work experience placements to explore possible pathways for their future. Lalita and Carlene in the Careers team (Pav 6) can help organise a placement that aligns with student interests and goals.

Year 12 student Rory Carroll, who is interested in directing and theatre-making, recently completed a placement with Missing Bits, a Braddon-based production team working across live streaming, concept development and film production. Rory gained experience in lighting, camera setup, talent coordination and pre-production planning, and received strong feedback and a solid reference.

Canberra Short Film Festival Selection for Student Film

Year 11 student Ruby Kisiel’s short film The Pilot was selected for two screenings at the 2025 Canberra Short Film Festival.

Her film was included in the festival’s Opening Night program at Tuggeranong Arts Centre and the Schools Screening at Dendy Cinemas Canberra.

🎥 Promo video for The Pilot: https://youtu.be/uIMFwBeKgaQ?

Sociology Simulation Summit

Sociology students took part in a Simulation Summit, where they stepped into the role of decision-makers and negotiated responses to the gender pay gap through an interactive assessment.

Careers Advisor Recognition

Congratulations to Lalita, who was a finalist at the NSW/ACT Careers Advisors Association 50th Annual Conference.

Lalita’s work supporting LTC students in their career pathways is highly valued, and this recognition reflects her contribution to the college.

Early Childhood Studies Community Learning

During Term 4, our Early Childhood Studies classes visited South.Point to support The Learning Nest Co., helping run play-based experiences for young children and building connections with a local community organisation. It was a meaningful, hands-on learning opportunity for our students, and it happened to land on Halloween.

World Teachers’ Day

We celebrated our amazing teachers and had a bit of Halloween fun along the way!
Thanks to everyone who helped mark the day and show appreciation for our staff.

Chromebooks – Year 12s

Attention all year 12 students! As the school year winds down, it’s time to bid farewell to your trusty Chromebook and charger.

If your Chromebook is still in tip-top shape, we’ll pass it on to another student. If it’s seen better days, we’ll retrieve its license and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way. If you do keep the device, we will have to lock it, and it won’t be usable.

So, help us keep it eco-friendly by ensuring all returned devices are recycled responsibly and let’s make every device count!

Public Transport Changes for Early 2026

Transport Canberra has issued important messages for families to help plan transport needs for early 2026.

Key information includes:

  • A new bus timetable will begin at the start of Term 1 on Monday 2 February 2026.
  • School bus services will not operate on Day 1, Term 1 (Friday 30 January), including dedicated school buses, ‘S’ trips that divert into schools and Supported School Transport services (formerly Special Needs Transport).
  • A school holiday bus timetable will run from 22 December 2025 to 1 February 2026.

Transport Canberra has prepared newsletter content for families of students returning in 2026 and an email for families of students starting in 2026. In Week 0, schools will receive updated bus timetables and school packs to share with families.

Social Media Age Restriction

The Australian Government’s new Social Media Age Restriction (SMAR) legislation comes into effect on 10 December 2025. This national law is designed to help protect the mental health and wellbeing of young Australians by ensuring social media platforms take steps to prevent Australians under 16 from creating or keeping an account.

Our school system is taking proactive steps to comply with the new legislation and support our students to have safe and positive experiences online.

To meet these new laws, from 10 December 2025, students in kindergarten to year 10 will no longer have access to YouTube through their school issued accounts. This may impact on how students can access the platform after this date. Further information from the eSafety Commissioner can be found in the attached fact sheet.

Please speak with your children and young people about the Social Media Age Restriction legislation. We know that some students may find it difficult to adjust to the new rules around social media use. Resources are available to support your discussions Social media age restrictions | eSafety Commissioner.

Deepfake supports

Australian reports have shown an alarming rise in incidents involving ‘deepfake’ images, where realistic but fake intimate images of students or staff are created and shared without consent.

These digitally altered images of minors are generally considered child sexual abuse material. To understand the risks of deepfake technology and learn what to do if your child receives a deepfake image or becomes a target, read the eSafety advisory on the impact of deepfakes in schools.

2025 school year Equity Fund now open

To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2025 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.

The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.

The 2025 school year payments for eligible families are $400 (preschool), $500 (primary school), and $750 (high school and college).

Payments of completed applications will begin earlier than previous years, with the first payments to families expected from 6 January 2025.

Families will have until the end of November 2025 to apply for the Fund. Check your eligibility and find more information about supporting documents on the Equity Fund webpage.

ACT public school term dates

The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.

Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.

Use these dates when planning your future holidays.

Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools

All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.

Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.

Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.

Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.

Become a Homestay Host

Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?

The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.

By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.

International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.

A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
