Book Week 2022
Since 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought together students and books to celebrate Book Week and shine a light on Australian authors and illustrators.
The Book Week 2022 theme “Dreaming With Eyes Open” acknowledges Australia’s First Nations People and their rich story based culture.
LTC held a Book Week Parade on Monday Week 6 – check out the gallery below!

National Science Week
National Science Week was celebrated in Week 5. On the Friday, LTC hosted year 10 students from Namadgi, Wanniassa, Caroline Chisholm, Calwell and Lanyon high schools for a science enrichment extension.
Learning focused on glass as part of the theme for this year and students completed sessions on practical chemistry, genetics and physics with college staff Scott, Chandra, Andrew and Brad.
The students were enthusiastic and learnt hands on practical skills using glassware as well as key features of glass, DNA and light.
Students engaged with guest speaker Professor Ulrike Mathesius from the ANU division of plant sciences who spoke about her research and how it benefits farming practices.
Thanks to the Academy of Future Skills and Paula Taylor for their support of the day.

Portrait Gallery Excursion
Year 12 Photography students visited the National Portrait Gallery to check out the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2022.
Students learnt about:
– the process of narrowing the 2500-3000 entries down to the 50 finalists displayed in the gallery.
– how the art handling and curatorial team decide where to place the work and what works are displayed next to each other.
– how the framing, scale, and techniques used in the photograph can contribute to how it is viewed and interpreted.

Ancient History
The Ancient History class have been studying Ancient China during the Qin and Han Dynasties. During breakout week students created model examples of ancient Chinese weapons from this period including polearms, daggers and even a miniature crossbow.

School Satisfaction & Climate Survey
Each year, the Education Directorate surveys all parents and carers, school staff and students in Years 4 to 12 about their experience of public education. The 2022 School Satisfaction & Climate Survey will be available online from 19 August to 9 September. The survey results will help us to continue to make quality informed decisions about how to improve our school. No personal identifying information will be provided to any school or college.
For each child in their family who attends an ACT public school, parents and carers will receive:
– An email about the parent survey, including a link to access the survey.; and
– A letter about the student survey outlining the reasons for collection and privacy provision for the data
If you do not receive the survey invitation, please check your Junk email folder; if it is not there, contact the school and you will be provided a survey link. If you do not have an email listed with the school, please contact the front office on 6142 3710 and ask for a survey link connection. There is also an opportunity to complete the survey in hard copy at Lake Tuggeranong College. You can organise this through the front Office as well.
The Parents and Carers Survey will be available online in other languages: Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Urdu, Vietnamese, Punjabi, Bengali, Spanish, Telugu, French and Italian. Respondents can select their preferred language when they start the survey. A shortened paper-version of the Parents and Carers Survey is also available in the following 5 languages: Dari, Dinka, Farsi, Karen and Mon. These surveys are available at the Front Office.
For the results to reflect the opinions of our whole school community, we need as many parents and carers, staff and students as possible to complete the survey. Your feedback is important, and we hope you will take part.
