End of Term 1
As Term 1 wraps up, we wish all students and families a safe and enjoyable break.
It has been a strong start to the year across the college, with students engaging in a wide range of learning, activities and opportunities.
A reminder that Monday 20 April is a student-free day.
We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday 21 April.

Harmony Week at LTC
Harmony Week at Lake Tuggeranong College brought students and staff together to celebrate culture, community and inclusion. Lunchtime activities included music and food, alongside a concert featuring a range of performances from pop to heavy metal.
Thank you to our musicians and the Tech TRaC-X team for their work on lighting and sound.

South Training On the Tools Program Launch
Students have begun South Training’s On the Tools program, a hands-on pathway into the building and construction industry. The program develops practical skills in areas such as carpentry, roofing, sheet metal work and interior finishing, while introducing workplace safety practices.
Students will work on a major project constructing a studio-style structure, hear from industry guest speakers, and complete supported work experience placements.

LTC Production: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Lake Tuggeranong College presents this year’s production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Join us in May for a live performance from our Drama students, bringing Shakespeare’s classic to the stage.
Show dates:
Thursday 21 May
Friday 22 May
More details to come.

LTC Students Reach Class Clowns National Grand Final
LTC students are headed to Melbourne for the Class Clowns National Grand Final after Cody and Dash, performing as The Phunny One, won the Canberra heat.
They will perform at Melbourne Town Hall as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Congratulations to all LTC students who performed on the night, including Ash, and Thane and Archie with their skit Grandma’s Ashes.

Thank you to Nathan for the tour and for sharing his experience with our students.

Pathways to Work and Learning Visit Bunnings Tuggeranong
Students from the Pathways to Work and Learning class visited Bunnings Warehouse Tuggeranong, gaining insight into the range of roles within the store.

Restricting student access to secondary Google accounts on Chromebooks
The Education Directorate is updating the settings on school managed Chromebooks to improve online safety for all students.
Students will no longer be able to add or use secondary Google accounts (such as personal Gmail or Google Chat accounts) on their school Chromebook from 20 April 2026. This update closes a security gap where unmonitored communication could occur.
Students will continue to use only their Education Google account. This allows the directorate to apply safety controls, monitor activity and prevent students from bypassing security settings.
This change will help create a safer and more consistent online environment, reduce distractions and support students to stay focused on learning. They also strengthen our ability to respond quickly and effectively if digital safety concerns arise.
Thank you for your support in helping maintain a safe, secure and positive digital learning environment for our students.
— Do not eat wild mushrooms —
Advice about death cap mushrooms
Death cap mushrooms grow in the ACT. They can grow anywhere in our region, at any time.
It is hard to distinguish a death cap mushroom from an edible mushroom, even for experienced collectors.
Do not touch or eat wild mushrooms, and keep children and pets away from them.
All parts of the death cap mushroom are poisonous. Cooking, soaking, freezing, peeling or drying does not make them safe. Eating even a small amount of a death cap mushroom can kill you.
If you think you may have eaten a death cap mushroom, urgently seek medical attention at a hospital emergency department. Do not wait for symptoms to occur. The chances of survival increase where treatment is started early. Take any remaining mushroom to the hospital for identification.
If you think a death cap mushroom may be growing in a public area, report it to Access Canberra by phone 13 22 81 or use the online form http://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/city-services/fix-my-street.
If you are concerned about wild mushrooms growing at your home, remove them using gloves or a tool and dispose of them with your household rubbish.
Find more information on death cap mushrooms (including some translated resources) at http://www.act.gov.au/health/topics/environmental-hazards/death-cap-mushrooms.

2026 school year Equity Fund now open
To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2026 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.
The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.
Check your eligibility and find more information about supporting documents on the Equity Fund webpage.

ACT public school term dates
The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.
Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.
Use these dates when planning your future holidays.
Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools
All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.
Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.
Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.
Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.

Become a Homestay Host
Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?
The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.
By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.
International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.
A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.
Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
