Breakout Week 2025
Breakout Week is all about giving students the chance to step outside the classroom, try something new, and connect with peers in different settings. Through travelling, exploring Canberra, and joining activities on campus, the program encourages curiosity, teamwork and creativity.
This year’s Breakout Week offered a wide variety of experiences:
Sydney Trip
Students travelled to Sydney for a packed itinerary of sightseeing and cultural experiences, enjoying the chance to explore together beyond Canberra.

Canberra Excursions
Closer to home, students took part in excursions to the Canberra Zoo, Floriade, Questacon and ice skating – a mix of learning, discovery and fun.

On-Campus Activities
Back on campus, activities included ceramics, Japanese calligraphy, sticker making and the LTChef Challenge, giving students creative and practical outlets without leaving the college.

Operation Formal Wear
The Lake Tuggeranong Lions Club is once again helping graduating students get ready for their formals – with dresses, suits, shoes, jewellery, ties, bags and more, all free of charge.

Open Mic 2.0 in the Library
Our Open Mic 2.0 filled the library with great performances at lunchtime.
Thanks to our talented performers and the library team for making it happen!

LTC Students Host Step into the Limelight
Two of our incredible students, Eli and Taylah, stepped into the spotlight as hosts of Step into the Limelight at the AIS Arena.
They led the night with confidence and humour, guiding the audience through an evening of outstanding performances.
We’re so proud of how they represented LTC on such a big stage!

Celebrating Our Learning Support Team
We celebrated our incredible Learning Support Assistants, whose work makes such a difference every day at LTC.
They support student success in learning, help everyone feel included and valued, and bring expertise and collaboration to both learning and wellbeing.
Thank you to our wonderful Learning Support team – we appreciate you!

R U OK? Day
We came together for R U OK? Day with a sausage sizzle, sweet treats, live music from our talented musos, and activities with prizes — plus plenty of opportunities for conversation and connection.

A Lifetime of Lessons: Student Interviews with the 55+ Club
Our Social and Community class visited the 55+ Club to conduct interviews as part of their unit on Contemporary Ageing.
These conversations will be transformed into profiles for an upcoming exhibition, A Lifetime of Lessons, launching in late October.
Many stories were shared, advice exchanged, and plenty of wisdom passed on.

Thane Sherwood Chats with ABC Radio Canberra
Year 11 student Thane Sherwood joined ABC Radio Canberra’s Sunday Brunch program to chat about his upcoming work experience placement with Bell Shakespeare.
🎧 Listen to his interview at the 1:27:00 mark here:

Drama Students Attend Romeo & Juliet
Our Drama students attended the Bell Shakespeare production of Romeo & Juliet, with front row seats to a beautifully realised take on the classic play.
Being so close to the action made the audience interaction even more engaging.
It was extra special to see Ryan Hodson in the role of Romeo – he visited LTC last year to run a workshop on The Tempest with our students.

Wear It Purple Day
Our college came together for Wear It Purple Day, celebrating this year’s theme: Bold Voices, Bright Futures.
Students and staff showed their support by dressing in purple, decorating spaces and joining in activities – a strong reminder of the importance of visibility, respect and inclusion for diverse genders and sexualities in our community.

UC Accelerated Pathways Program
The University of Canberra’s Accelerated Pathways Program is open to eligible students interested in starting university study while still in college. For more information, visit: https://shorturl.at/y35Ip

Deepfake supports
Australian reports have shown an alarming rise in incidents involving ‘deepfake’ images, where realistic but fake intimate images of students or staff are created and shared without consent.
These digitally altered images of minors are generally considered child sexual abuse material. To understand the risks of deepfake technology and learn what to do if your child receives a deepfake image or becomes a target, read the eSafety advisory on the impact of deepfakes in schools.

2025 school year Equity Fund now open
To ease the pressure of back-to-school costs, eligible Canberra families can apply now for 2025 Future of Education Equity Fund payments.
The Equity Fund supports eligible low-income families and independent students from preschool through year 12 with a one-off, annual payment to help cover the costs associated with schooling such as uniforms, sport equipment and activities, tuition and music lessons.
The 2025 school year payments for eligible families are $400 (preschool), $500 (primary school), and $750 (high school and college).
Payments of completed applications will begin earlier than previous years, with the first payments to families expected from 6 January 2025.
Families will have until the end of November 2025 to apply for the Fund. Check your eligibility and find more information about supporting documents on the Equity Fund webpage.

ACT public school term dates
The ACT public school term dates for 2026-2030, including student-free days, are now available on the Education Directorate’s website.
Each year, the first day of every term is a student-free day. We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment.
Use these dates when planning your future holidays.
Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools
All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.
Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.
Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.
Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.

Become a Homestay Host
Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?
The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.
By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.
International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.
A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.
Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.
