Term 3 Wrap-Up: Celebrating LTC’s Whirlwind of Activities

The end of Term 3 already?

LTC has been a whirlwind of activity, and our students and staff are nothing short of amazing.

Over the last two weeks, we’ve had a series of exciting events that truly reflect the vibrant and dynamic spirit of our school community.

LTC’s Science Mentors

📺🌟 Check out WIN News for a Special Feature on LTC’s Science Mentors!

Our talented students, Raphaela, Natasha, and Aerika, have collaborated with ANU staff and Lanyon High students to ignite the spark of scientific curiosity among young minds from Bonython, Calwell, Monash, Namadgi, and Theodore.

They’re on a mission to make science not just accessible but incredibly exciting! 🚀🔬 🌟

LTC’s Raphaela, Natasha, and Aerika recently joined forces with ANU staff and Lanyon High students to become mentors for Year 6 students from Bonython, Calwell, Monash, Namadgi, and Theodore.

Together, they delved into the fascinating realm of science, capturing their journey through captivating science communication articles. 🚀📝

Music, Sausage Sizzle, and Meaningful Conversations! 🌭🎶

During Line 0, we celebrated R U OK? Day with groovy tunes, sizzling sausages, and, most importantly, meaningful conversations. While the day’s mission was about checking in with each other, it’s a practice we’re committed to every day.

Remember, supporting each other is an ongoing effort. If you or someone you know needs help, visit R U OK? for valuable resources. Let’s keep the spirit of R U OK? Day alive, not just today, but all year round.

Introducing Lauren Freeman, our Indigenous Support Officer at LTC!

We’re delighted to welcome Lauren to our team as the Indigenous Support Officer.

Part of Lauren’s role is dedicated to identifying and providing support for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Stay tuned for exciting initiatives and collaborations as we work together with Lauren to empower our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, reaffirming our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Year 11 and 12 Ceramics

🎨🔥 Get ready to be amazed by the incredible talent of our Year 11 and 12 #ceramics students!

🌟 They’ve been hard at work crafting intricate relief tiles that are nothing short of masterpieces.

From intricate designs to breathtaking textures, these young artists are pushing the boundaries of creativity in ceramics.

High School Transition Day

This event is crucial for prospective students transitioning to college life. It showcases our campus, provides insights into college academics and campus life.

Wanniassa students engaged in captivating activities, including brain dissection with our psychology class led by Ary and Natasha, and water quality data collection in our interdisciplinary science class.

It’s all about hands-on learning and fostering a sense of belonging.

Welcome to the LTC family! 💙

Become a Homestay Host

Are you interested in broadening your family’s cultural experiences and forming lifelong friendships?

The ACT Education Directorate is seeking Homestay hosts for international students planning to study at an ACT public high school or college.

By becoming a Homestay host, you’ll not only provide a room and meals, but you’ll also welcome a young person into your family and support their growth as they gain new perspectives, confidence, English fluency, and academic and essential life skills.

International students participating in the Homestay program are aged 16 years or above. If you have the time to support a student’s social wellbeing and academic endeavours, and have an interest in other cultures, we would love to hear from you.

A weekly payment will be provided to help cover the costs of living expenses.

Find out more at bit.ly/HomestayCanberra or email ieu@act.gov.au, or call 02 6205 9194.

Have Your Say: Shaping the Use of Mobile Phones and Devices in ACT Public Schools

We are seeking your feedback on the use of mobile phones and other devices by students in ACT public schools.

As the use of mobile phones and other smart devices by students has become increasingly common in ACT public schools, questions about how they can best be used have also increased. Questions include:

✳️ Can students use devices without distraction?

✳️How do schools balance the risk of distraction with the benefits of enabling learning?

✳️ How to protect students from potential cyberbullying?

✳️ Does the use of devices in schools impact addiction to technology?

✳️ Does the availability of devices have an impact on face-to-face social interaction and traditional and active play?

✳️ What role should schools have in educating students about the appropriate use of devices?

Feedback will close at 11:59pm on 8 October 2023

Transport Canberra term 4 bus timetable changes

A new bus timetable will begin from Monday 9 October 2023 to align with the start of term 4.

The changes include updated bell times and some refinements to 14 school services based on school and community feedback. There are no changes to the light rail timetable.

The upcoming school holidays is the perfect time to ensure you’re ready for the term ahead.

You’ll build your skills on the job at one of the many Australian Government departments and agencies participating in the 2024 program. And if you find you love the meaningful work, you can stay on and continue your career in the Australian Public Service (APS).

The program builds on the success of the Department of Finance’s Career Starter Program and the APS HR Profession’s Human Resources (HR) School Leaver Program that you may have heard about in previous years.
