On Friday and Saturday 21 and 22 August 2015, nine LTC students attended the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) Conference 2015 at University House. Marking 70 years since the establishment of the UN, the Conference focussed on the issues of sustainable development, peace and security, international human rights law, and the role of the UN in the years past and the years to come.
At the Conference, students had the opportunity to listen to and interact with a range of prominent local and international speakers from the UN, DFAT, CSIRO, ANU, and a range of NGOs. In addition, the Hon Bob Carr, former Foreign Minister, and Ma Zhaoxu, Ambassador to Australia from China presented. LTC students gained valuable insights from the Conference into the challenges that our world is facing today and how the UN, its members, and its partners are working to address these.
As part of the Conference, students also attended a formal reception at Government House on Friday 21 August 2015 where they met Their Excellencies, the Hon Peter Cosgrove, Governor General of Australia, and Lady Cosgrove. It was a privilege for the students to also receive a private tour of Government House by Lady Cosgrove and to mingle with the Conference speakers and attendees.
