Five LTC students attended the ACT Parliament of Youth on Sustainability at ANU’s Manning Clarke Centre on Monday 1 June.
1200 students from around Canberra presented their ideas to politicians about making Canberra a sustainable city by the year 2020. LTC Ecology students wrote a green paper which they presented outlining how food and water contribute to green-house gases and how we can reduce them by the year 2020. MLA Shane Rattenbury (Greens) hosted the event with students themselves voting on the best proposals for submission to the Legislative Assembly.
Students attending the parliament were Alannah Wood, Tyler Cherry, Amelia Cherry, Tealeah Schofield and Ruan Buchan. The day was enjoyed by all proving productive as a learning tool as it provided a forum for young people to ‘connect’ to local decision-makers in how we can help make Canberra more sustainable now and in the future.
